Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place machine on stable, flat surface.

  1. Remove machine from packaging: Lift carefully from carrying case.
  2. Position machine: Ensure adequate workspace with proper lighting.
  3. Install foot controller: Connect to machine's power port.
  4. Power connection: Plug into appropriate electrical outlet (check voltage setting).
  5. Accessory setup: Install needle, thread machine, and wind bobbin.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from moving parts. Always disconnect power when threading or changing accessories.

First-Time Operation

Prepare machine for initial use with proper threading and settings.

  1. Thread the machine: Follow numbered threading path on machine.
  2. Wind bobbin: Use built-in bobbin winder with thread from spool.
  3. Insert bobbin: Place in bobbin case with thread flowing counterclockwise.
  4. Select stitch: Turn stitch selection dial to desired pattern.

Front Panel: Stitch selection dial, stitch length control, stitch width control, reverse stitch button, bobbin winder, spool pins.

Operation: Stitch selection - turn dial to desired pattern number. Stitch length - adjust for shorter/longer stitches. Stitch width - control zigzag width. Reverse - hold button for backstitching. Bobbin winder - push bobbin to right to engage winding.

Tension Control: Upper thread tension dial (0-9 settings). Normal setting is 4 for balanced stitches.

Stitch Selection

Choose from 12 built-in stitches for various sewing applications.

  1. Straight Stitch (Position 1): Basic sewing, topstitching, basting
  2. Zigzag Stitch (Position 2): Seam finishing, appliqué, decorative work
  3. 3-Step Zigzag (Position 3): Stretch fabrics, mending, elastic application
  4. Blind Hem Stitch (Position 4): Nearly invisible hemming
  5. Stretch Stitches (Positions 5-7): For knit and stretch fabrics
  6. Decorative Stitches (Positions 8-12): Shell, scallop, and fancy stitches

Tip: Always test stitch on scrap fabric before starting project.

Threading & Bobbin

Proper threading ensures smooth operation and quality stitches.

  1. Raise needle: Turn handwheel to highest position.
  2. Place spool: Position thread spool on spool pin.
  3. Follow threading path: Guide thread through numbered path to needle.
  4. Use needle threader: Push lever down and hook thread through needle eye.
  5. Wind bobbin: Place empty bobbin on winder, guide thread, push to engage.
  6. Insert bobbin: Drop into bobbin case with thread flowing counterclockwise.
  7. Pull up bobbin thread: Hold upper thread, turn handwheel to bring up bobbin thread.

WARNING! Ensure presser foot is raised when threading. Always use same thread type in bobbin and needle.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Daily cleaning: Brush out lint from bobbin area and feed dogs.
  2. Monthly oiling: Apply 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil to hook race and moving parts.
  3. Needle replacement: Change needle after every project or 8 hours of sewing.
  4. Bobbin case cleaning: Remove and clean bobbin case periodically.
  5. Exterior cleaning: Wipe with soft, dry cloth only.

CAUTION! Unplug machine before cleaning or maintenance. Use only Singer-approved lubricants.
