Basic Sewing Operations

Master these fundamental sewing techniques.

  1. Starting a seam: Position fabric under needle, lower presser foot, hold thread tails, begin sewing slowly.
  2. Straight stitching: Guide fabric gently, let feed dogs move fabric automatically.
  3. Reverse stitching: Press reverse lever at beginning and end of seams to lock stitches.
  4. Turning corners: Stop with needle down in fabric, lift presser foot, pivot fabric, lower foot, continue sewing.
  5. Finishing seams: Reverse stitch, raise needle, lift presser foot, pull fabric to back, trim threads.
  6. Darning/free-motion: Drop feed dogs, use darning foot, move fabric manually in any direction.

WARNING! Never pull fabric through machine - let feed dogs advance fabric naturally to avoid needle breakage.

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Daily: Brush out lint from bobbin area and feed dogs.
  2. Weekly: Oil machine according to diagram with sewing machine oil.
  3. Monthly: Remove needle plate and clean underneath.
